\u00ab\u00a0Les plus connus des avant-gardiste inconnus n’ont jamais manqu\u00e9 de biographes – \u00e0 commencer par eux-m\u00eames! -mais la biographie \u00e9pique publi\u00e9e en 2003 par<\/strong> Claude ARNAUD<\/strong><\/span>, aujourd’hui disponible en anglais gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la traduction de Lauren Elkin et Charlotte Mandell<\/strong>, est la premi\u00e8re \u00e0 r\u00e9ussir l’impossible<\/span><\/strong>, en offrant un r\u00e9cit continu de la vie de COCTEAU<\/strong>, au lieu d’une s\u00e9lection de hauts faits. Le r\u00e9sultat tient en un pav\u00e9 complexe de plus de 1000 pages. Mais cette amplitude n’est pas vaine; elle est l’espace n\u00e9cessaire pour donner corps \u00e0 l’histoire v\u00e9cue par COCTEAU.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 Si quelques-unes des pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents biographies, celle de Francis Steegmuller<\/span> (1970) en particulier, qui faisait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence, sont plus lisibles, c’est qu’elles n’\u00e9taient pas aussi ambitieuses<\/strong>. L’on doit \u00e0 Claude ARNAUD d’avoir fait le travail que personne avant lui n’avait eu l’\u00e9nergie de faire (…) <\/span><\/strong>Cocteau \u00e9tait tout sauf e<\/span><\/span>nnuyeux, et je ne peux imaginer une biographie exhaustive suscitant autant d’\u00e9clats de <\/span><\/span>rire.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>L’empathie imaginative le dispute \u00e0 la rigueur de la recherche, chez ARNAUD<\/span>; il fait vivre son seulement son h\u00e9ros mais tous les seconds r\u00f4les<\/span>…\u00a0\u00bb<\/span>
