After all, if it\u2019s narrated with ironic distance, absolutely nobody will care. And there is no distance here: it\u2019s like the poet falling into the water mirror. <strong>All of a sudden, there you are, side by side with <span style=\"color: #008000;\">PROUST,<\/span> GIDE, <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Anna de NOAILLES,<\/span> NIJINSKY, <span style=\"color: #008000;\">STRAVINSKY,<\/span> PICASSO, and dozens of lesser lights (&#8230;) <\/strong>The artistic world of \u201cl\u2019entre-les-deux-guerres\u201d Paris is lovingly chronicled&#8230; and <strong>rendered by his translators in supple English that doesn\u2019t read like a translation<\/strong> (&#8230;) The charm of <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>ARNAUD<\/strong><\/span>\u2019s book is that he seems <strong>to re-create the adolescent intensity of Cocteau\u2019s world<\/strong>, the one where the latest show at <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>the Ballets Russes<\/strong><\/span> was all anybody talked about, and where Being Part of It All was the only thing that mattered. <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Reading it is like diving down to Atlantis.<\/strong><\/span> <strong>Take a weekend and take the plunge.
